The sleek green fairways of Los Arqueros Golf & Country Club are cradled in the rugged Sierras of Ronda. This spectacular mountain setting where the eagle and vulture soar, provide players too with a birdie: eye view across the Mediterranean and beyond to Africa on a clear day.
The course demands accurate play, especially on some of the tighter fairways where even big hitters may be advised to play a shorter iron or wood off the tee for greater precision. The great third hole with a lake on the left of the fairway and wide bunkers dotting the right, needs careful strategy to avoid an unhappy end.
But the sixth hole is the most difficult and the longest. Crucial decisions must be taken right from the tee shot. Watch out for the eighth hole in particular which is a a long par five with a hazardous deep out off bounds, a dogleg to the right an abrupt descent to the green, and finally a creek to cross to reach the pin.
Los Arqueros is a golf course which presents a challenge for the experienced golfer and is a real test of skill for beginners.
